Sénépy Tour

Description

This route will lead you through the old mining towns of Susville and La Motte-d’Aveillans, and have you circle around the Sénépy mountain, from as high as 200 metres, depending on whether you’re facing the Vercors or the Dévoluy.

When leaving the La Mure tourist office, go up Breuil street and then take Jean Jaurès street to exit the town. Turn left towards La Motte d’Aveillans. You will pass by La Mure’s former train station and then cross the Villaret mining area, where the «Centrale» (the bulk of Matheysine’s mining infrastructure) was spread out. After Villaret, you will arrive at La Motte-d’Aveillans, another mining hub. In La Motte, visit the Mine Image museum and then take the D116 road towards La Motte-Saint-Martin, Marcieu and Mayres-Savel. Once you’ve reached the fork leading to Savel’s beach, keep riding towards Saint-Arey and then Prunieres, where you can admire the old headframe of the Rioux mine. While climbing up to La Mure, you will ride past the theatre and the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church. Afterwards, you’ll be getting back to your starting point
